No, not a sour this time, and yes a stout…in summer. This month belongs to the Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout. I actually just realized this is the second month in a row that I featured an Anderson Valley beer so they must be doing something right. The Barney Flats is straight up enjoyable to drink. Pours very very dark, little head, mildly carbonated and gives an earthy, coffee aroma. Just the right amount of creamy taste that will make you want to drink more than one without it sitting too heavy in the stomach but still has that roasted malty stout flavor. Lots of notes of coffee and chocolate. Definitely one of my new favorite stouts, encompassing many of my favorite characteristics in beers.
